High-Resolution Art
Museums are not big fans of providing high-resolution digital versions of the art they’re exhibiting. Reasons such as helping in the creation of forgeries are often quoted for this. However, the Metropolitan Museum has decided to follow the lead of the Getty Trust and is making available online over 400,000 works of art. These fabulous works of art can be downloaded from the Museum’s website and what’s even nicer is that they can be used for non-commercial purposes. The Museum has promised that the number of works of art available on its website in digital format will grow over time. Among the available ones are works by Pablo Picasso and Rembrandt, so there are a lot of nice things to admire. What I love about this initiative is that you can actually save the files and set them as wallpapers on your computer. To do so, just visit the Collection’s website here and navigate through a section until you find the work of art you want to download. As you’ll notice, the website is pretty easy to use.
Found what you wanted? Click the little download button under it to get the high-resolution version, which you can then save wherever you want on your hard drive.
For those of you who appreciate quality are and photography, this is welcomed as it comes on the heels of Getty Images launching a service that allows you to publish some of its famous imagery for free.
