Last Wednesday at the annual Ira Sohn Investment Research Conference in New York, was the first blatantly pointed criticisms of Ballmer from a prominent investor. David Einhorn, CEO of Greenlight Capital, stated during a speech that it’s time to “give someone else a chance,” because “his continued presence is the biggest overhang on Microsoft’s stock.” This direct attack on Ballmer comes the day after IBM’s market value surpassed Microsoft for the first time in 15 years....

The survey was done by research firm On Device and it shows that the new iOS 6 features aren’t impressive to users, and there’s a slight decrease in their level of satisfaction. If the level of satisfaction was 6.93 out of 10 at the time of the iOS 4 update, growing to 7.75 for iOS 5 and it’s now at 7.65 or iOS 6. This slight decrease may be due to the dissatisfaction with Apple giving up on Google Maps to make room for its own maps app....

Being intimately familiar with Microsoft’s License team and contracts (yeah, I’ve negotiated a few EAs in my day <unfortunately,>) it’s not everyday Microsoft will give away software. What I’ve noticed is they only do this in new areas where they are looking to pick up market share OR, in areas of fierce competition. My guess Microsoft is trying to keep it’s Rivals (MediaWiki, etc.) out of the Corporate Collaboration space while at the same time deeply embedding it’s new Workflow technologies into the Corporate environment....

Office 2016 Coming Windows 10 will offer a touch-optimized version of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook. The apps will be pre-installed and free on phones and smaller tablets that are running Windows 10. Microsoft says these Office “Universal apps” will be available for the Windows 10 Technical Preview for members of the Windows Insiders program in a new build in the next few weeks. The Outlook Mail and Calendar for Windows 10 will replace the current Mail and Calendar apps that currently run on Windows 8....

Microsoft Office Fluent UI Redesign The most notable change is to the ribbon. Microsoft says this will be a more modern, clean, and simplified look that will be highly customizable. You can load it up with the tools you use most during the day and remove the ones you never need. it will also be collapsible to a single line that looks like a toolbar. The web version of Word will see the new ribbon design first and select Office Insiders will start to see the new ribbon for Outlook in July....
