Yahoo On-Demand Passwords
Yahoo will send you an SMS text message containing a one-time password. This feature isn’t enabled by default on your account, and you’ll need to set it up yourself following these steps:
2) Click on your name at the top right corner to go to your account information page. 3) Select “Account Security” in the left bar. 4) Click on the slider for “On-demand passwords” to opt-in. 5) Enter your phone number and Yahoo will send you a verification code. 6) Enter the code and voila! This on-demand password option is currently available in the U.S. only.
What About Security?
It seems that if someone has your Yahoo username and access to your phone (maybe you left it on your desk or just outright stolen), they could log into your account. Not to mention, it would be even easier if you have your phone set up to display SMS text messages on your screen without having to unlock it. While on-demand passwords might be more convenient, I would stick with enabling two-step verification and use password management software like LastPass or 1Password instead. Remember, convenience is the enemy of security, and password managers are meant to be a set-it and forget-it solution anyway. You can enable two-step verification in Yahoo settings under Account Security. And when you do enable it, you’ll need to disable On-demand Passwords if you have it set up, so you can’t use both methods.
